“Parents as Partners.”
Sample Poetry Gift Parent Letter

Dear Parent,
This little book is our gift to you. Today I asked the children to “say the first line of a poem they will remember forever.”

We began, and we not only said the “first lines”, but the whole poem. Just start you child with any and all of these first lines and you’ll enjoy the words of poems your child will not forget.

Some are poems, some are rhymes, some verses, some songs, some story excerpts, and others fall into the category of folklore. The important thing is that your child holds them on the walls of his or her mind.

We hope you’ll agree that “…Pretty things, well said, it’s nice to have them in your head.” (Robert Frost)

Wishing you a celebration of language!

Warmly,
